NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi
One platform for the entire state highway network
NZTA replaced 18 separate regional set-ups with one platform across more than 11,000 km of state highway. Live since September 2025, it gives the national road agency a single view of corridor access across every region.
Before
Corridor access on the state highway network was run as 18 separate regional operations across more than one system, working with 21 different temporary traffic management providers. There was no single view of what was planned or active across the network, no consistent way to detect conflicts, and coordination between regions was manual and duplicated. Applying the NZ Guide to Temporary Traffic Management consistently from one region to the next was hard, and so was answering a simple question: how well is the system performing?
Now
Since September 2025 the entire state highway network, more than 11,000 km, has run on myWorksites. Corridor access requests and traffic management plans are processed in one place, conflicts are detected automatically, NZGTTM workflows are built in, and there is centralised oversight across all regions. Marlborough's local roads are managed on the platform through the same arrangement.
NZTA is also where the next stage of the platform is being proven. Road space bookings are becoming the standard route for jobs on the state highway network, and Realtime Operations, which shows what is actually deployed on the road rather than what was approved, is piloting with NZTA.
Why it matters beyond the state highways
State highways detour onto local roads, cross council boundaries and share contractors with every district they pass through. With NZTA on myWorksites, every contractor working on a state highway already uses it, and a council on the same platform can see what is happening on the state highway next door.
