Operations and Site Reliability Engineer

Steve Foster

Steve trained in analytical chemistry, a scientist's grounding in measurement and method that he's applied to systems ever since.

He cut his teeth as a systems administrator at the UK's Press Association (a newsroom where things ship to deadline and don't get to fall over), before moving into cloud engineering. That's a career span that's taken him from racking the boxes to designing what replaced them. He's now been on myWorksites for around five years, bringing twenty-five years of keeping other people's systems running (which is why he thinks about failure first).

Talk to him about: infrastructure and observability done properly, and maps and geospatial data; he's a keen advocate for open-source mapping tools, and keeps myWorksites' internal datasets current and available.

Outside work: Volunteer surf lifeguard in summer, a budding adventure racer with running, swimming and cycling on the side, and dad duties accounting for the rest. Cooks a stonking curry, and will defend it. If he were a dog: a border collie, always up for a run, constantly herding.
